Fem-say-wha?

So I wanted to change it up a bit & write about something that I’m quite passionate about, and that is equality - in all senses of the word.

That includes gender, race, religion and everything in between.

This post however is to just skim the surface of gender equality. Which is an interesting topic because the more people I talk to, the more it becomes obscenely obvious that although many people in my social circles may believe in equality, they refuse to stand up and speak out because it then dubs you as a “feminist” which is used with such hostility, that it is no surprise we try to bashfully deny it…. So I thought, what better day to address this, than International Women’s Day.

Now let’s just take a moment to really let that all sink in.

If you were honest with yourself, as I was, you probably would have just come to the conclusion that by not talking about your rights as a woman or your beliefs as a man about womens rights. That in turn shows the exact issue with this whole twisted world.

I, as a female, believe wholeheartedly that as this is 2017, I should have equal rights as my male colleague’s, as my male family members, as my male friends – I truly do not think this is a crazy or farfetched idea - this however doesn’t seem to be the case.

At present, in some of the most developed of Countries, Australia included, there are males making choices about my body, about our bodies, and I’m perplexed as to why more people aren’t as furious about this as I am. Actually scrap that, I’m pissed off, I’m pissed off that by having an opinion (some may say a particularly strong one at that), that this automatically puts me in some category with so much stigma, that people automatically assume all the absurd negative connotations that come hand in hand with it.

Though I can’t comprehend how not wanting the male population to consistently trump you, is something to be ashamed about, nor can I understand that anyone can be ok, being dubbed a second class citizen to the male population as an entirety. In saying that, I do not want to belittle, or put the male population down, I do however want to start the conversation as to how we can overcome this, and I honestly believe that is how to start the ball rolling. To get the conversation out there – without the suggested tones, or hints of ridicule. Just as simple as that. What sort of message are we sending, if even we are too scared to talk about it.

So, on this Day, I’d like to put the thought out there, that because you know that women deserve equality, that simply having a vagina, doesn’t make you any less capable, that we “Be Bold for Change”
